2009-05-07 : Life Cycle and Techno-Economic Assessment of The North East Biomass to Liquids Project Report launched
( Back to Top )This is the NNFCC report on the life cycle and techno-economic assessment of the North East biomass to liquids (BtL) project, (or Integrated Biomass to Syngas (IBS) project), as part of a study commissioned by NNFCC and funded by DECC. Overall project management and life cycle assessment was undertaken by Nigel Mortimer of North Energy, supported by Anna Evans, Vicki Shaw and Jane Hunter, with the techno-economic assessment being carried out by Prof. A. V. Bridgwater of Consultants On Process Engineering Ltd (COPE). The aims of this study were to investigate the greenhouse gas emissions and the economic viability of the project.
The objectives required to achieve this consisted of determining the main configurations and technical specifications of possible options for the IBS project in terms of biomass feedstock supply, densification and conversion to liquid biofuels, estimating GHG emissions and economic costs of the project in a consistent manner, and conducting sensitivity analysis of key parameters.
The report is available to download from the NNFCC website below, with example workbooks for Liquids and Solids Gasifiers available as separate documents.
